Obituary of Betty H. Walker
Mrs. Betty H. Walker, 86, of Auburn, passed away Friday, Sept. 22, 2017 at The Commons on St. Anthony.
A native of Honesdale, Pa., she was born on March 2, 1931, the daughter of Oscar and Martha Catherine Hippensteel. She graduated from Honesdale High School and Temple University with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She was employed as a RN manager at Temple University Hospital’s Burn Unit.
She relocated to Auburn, N.Y. after meeting the love of her life, Andrew A. Walker. The couple married on Oct. 8, 1960. After her retirement she loved to volunteer her time with the Auburn Garden Club, The Home on Grant Avenue, and Auburn Community Hospital. She and her husband were past members of O.C.C., Owasco Yacht Club, Frozen Ocean Club, and Sacred Heart Church.
Surviving are her three children, Andrew A. (Kristen) Walker Jr., of Palm City, Fla., David S. (Kathy) Walker, of Waxhaw, N.C., and Karen A. (William) Scarbrough, of Brockport, N.Y.; her grandchildren, Christopher Ellinwood, Tarra and Karen Walker, Meghan and Michael Walker, and Brian and Steven Scarbrough; her great-grandchild, Olivia Sue Ellinwood.
She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew A. Walker in 2010; also her brother, Oscar Hippensteel in 2008.
There are no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at the family’s convenience in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Honesdale, Pa., as per her request.
