Obituary of Bruno M. DiMatteo


Mr. Bruno M. DiMatteo, 82, of East Lake Road, Auburn, passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, 2017, at Auburn Community Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He met every challenge with dignity, especially his courageous struggle with Parkinson disease.
 
A lifelong Auburnian, Bruno was a retired First Sargent with the New York State Troopers, Troop E Canandaigua, having 30 years of service from 1962 to 1992. He was also a co-owner of the Rolling Wheels Race Park.
 
A member of St. Francis Church, and a former Parish Council Member, Bruno was active in many local organizations including serving on the Leo Pinckney Scholarship Committee and a member of the NYSPBA.
 
A United States Army Veteran, Bruno served from Jan. 7, 1955, to Jan. 6, 1958. He was a graduate of Auburn West High with the class of 1953 and graduated from the New York State Police Academy in 1962. He enjoyed his winters at The Villages, Florida.
 
Surviving are his wife Jacqueline Leotta DiMatteo, having recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on Sept. 1, 2017; a son John (Allison) DiMatteo, Auburn; a daughter Theresa DiMatteo, Liverpool; three grandchildren Alicia (Keith) Teal, Gregory DiMatteo and Anna DiMatteo (Will Brown); two great-grandchildren McKenna and Miley; several nieces, nephews and cousins; sister-in-law Lucille Cambra; brother-in-law Ben Leotta and many friends.
 
He was pre-deceased by his parents Pasquale and Anna Lepore DiMatteo and siblings Argerinda (Sol) Reginelli, Frank DiMatteo, Dora Marangola, Jennie Alongi, Emilio DiMatteo and Anthony DiMatteo.
 
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017 at 11 a.m. in St.  Francis Church with the Reverend Louis Vasile as celebrant. Entombment will follow with full military honors at St. Joseph’s Mausoleum. Arrangements are with Farrell’s Funeral Service, Inc., 84 South St. Auburn NY.
