Obituary of Thomas J. Salva
Mr. Thomas J. Salva, 89, of 30 Willard St., Auburn, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017 at Auburn Community Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Auburn, the son of Sebastiano and Rosaria Leanza Salva. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was the retired proprietor and owner of the Genesee Foods, a corner store staple of the west end of the city at Genesee and Van Patten Street, until closing in 1990. He loved his neighborhood, and kept a good watch on all his friends.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Auburn; enjoyed gardening, and his family. His two dogs, Benji and Roxy were great pals.
Surviving are his sisters, Rose LaMonte, of Oceanside, Calif., and Josephine Catalfano, of Auburn; brother, Alfonso Salva, of Auburn; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; a close friend, Betty Anne Shea.
He was predeceased by his parents; brothers-in-law, Stanley LaMonte, and Anthony Catalfano; sister-in-law, Jeanne Salvo; a nephew, James Salvo.
A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017 in St. Mary’s Church, Auburn, with the Pastor, Rev. Frank J. Lioi as celebrant. Interment with full military honors will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
