Obituary of Raymond Howard Wood
Mr. Raymond H. Wood, 80, Retired City of Auburn Assistant Police Chief, of 26 Grove Avenue, Auburn NY passed away peacefully, with his family at Auburn Community Hospital.
Ray was born on August 3, 1936 the son of Howard and Ada Slocum Wood. He was a graduate of Auburn West High School with the Class of 1955, a graduate of the Moran Institute at St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY; and attended Cayuga Community College for many professional training classes in continuing education; and the New York State Commission of Criminal Investigations.
He joined the City of Auburn Police Department in June 1960, retiring on June 30, 1993, as the Assistant Police Chief, having served as the Acting Police Chief. For eight years he served in the 108th Infantry Battalion with the New York National Guard. .
A former Boy Scout Counselor with Auburn Troop 1, member and former Vice President of the Auburn Police Benevolent Association, and a member of the United Methodist Church of Auburn. He had been employed for thirty three years at the Brew, Mosher & Neagle Funeral Home.
Surviving are his wife Priscilla Stanzak Wood, whom he married on June 2, 1962 and their children John P. Wood and Pamela A. Wood, both of Auburn A Granddaughter Gabrielle Wood, and sisters Louise Dewey of Clinton, NY and Ruth McLaughlin, Auburn NY. Several nieces, nephews.
He was pre deceased by sisters Florence Blanchard and Elizabeth West, and their parents.
