Obituary of James G. Westmiller

James G. Westmiller, 88, of 15 Augustus St., Auburn, passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2016 at The Commons on St. Anthony Street, Auburn, surrounded by his family. A native of Genoa, born on Dec. 17, 1928; a graduate of Genoa High School, he was a Korean War U.S. Army veteran serving in occupied Germany during his service. He had been employed at Firth Carpet Company, and retired from Red Star Express with 35 years of employment as the trucking payroll supervisor. In addition, he was employed with Mason and Grant, retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Church, the V.F.W. Post 1975, and the Springport Senior Citizens. Among many activities were golfing, playing cards, dong his puzzles, watching sports games, traveling, and spending time with the family. Surviving are his wife, whom he married on Jan. 24, 1952, Elizabeth “Betty” Burns Westmiller, and their children, all of Auburn, David J. Westmiller, Lawrence P. Westmiller (Margaret Savino), Donald J. Westmiller (Delia), Robert L. Westmiller (Beth), Paul S. Westmiller (Cynthia), Carol A. Quill (Timothy), and Diane M. Stechuchak (John); 19 grandchildren, John and David Westmiller, Krista Jimenez, Timothy, Elizabeth, Christopher, and Stephanie Quill, Donald Westmiller, Cheri Wakeham, Suzanne Westmiller, Michael, and Jonathon Westmiller, Tiffany, Steven, Maeghan, and Sabrina Westmiller, Jeffrey, Kevin, and Ryan Stechuchak; 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Archie A. Westmiller (Elaine), of Weedsport; nieces, nephews, and many devoted friends. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Gertrude Cummins Westmiller, and sister and brother-in-law, Louis and Julia Rumpf. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, 2016 in St. Alphonsus Church with the pastor, Rev. Timothy Niven, as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Farrell’s Funeral Service, Inc., 84 South St., Auburn.
