Obituary of Michael Evangelista
Michael L. Evangelista, 82, a lifelong Auburn resident passed away Wednesday November 2, 2016 at Auburn Community Hospital.
The son of Lorenzo and Raffaella Serponara Evangelista, he was a lifelong member of Holy Family Church. a graduate of Holy Family Parochial School, Central High School and a graduate S.U.N.Y Morrisville. He had retired from G E, Auburn and Welch-Allyn, Skaneateles as a Factory Engineer from both companies. He held several patents on his designs.
A Korean War veteran with the U.S. Air Force , he married in Paris, France Huguette Chenel, on September 29, 1956 in Paris, France. They had recently celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.
He was a Forth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, a past Grand Knight of Council
207, and was current member of St. Francis Knights of Columbus. A member of the American Legion Calamari Post, V.F.W..
A noted artist, he recently held an exhibit at the Cayuga Museum with his paintings, sculptures and wood working. His sculpture “ The Immigrants” was invited to be in the 2017 exhibit on Italian American heritage at the Cayuga Museum. His acrylic oil paintings can be found in homes of friends, family. He donated two paintings for the lobby of Holy Family Church, of the original Holy Church. Also donating a wooden cross.
Earlier this summer in the Auburn Citizen he was profiled for his artistry, and was dubbed “The Painter on Perry Street.” He was honored, for his Cayuga Museum show, and the article.

He was pre deceased by a daughter Mary Storms, his parents, sisters Rose Nanna, Mary Pucino, a nephew Joseph Nanna and his in laws Lucien and Georgette Chenel.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Monday November 7, 2016 in Holy Family Church with the Pastor, Reverend John Gathenya as celebrant. A private interment will beheld at Joseph’s Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Sunday November 6, 2016 from 1 to 4 pm at Farrell’s Funeral Service, Inc 84 South ST Auburn NY. Memorials may be made to either Holy Family Church or Matthew House
