Deborah Lee Dempsey Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Deborah Lee Dempsey, who left us on July 16, 2024. Born on September 30, 1951, Deb has now joined her beloved father, Robert Dempsey, mother, Norma Dempsey, sister, Patricia Lacey, and treasured nephew, Shane Dempsey.

Deborah, affectionately known as "Grammy," leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. She was the cherished grandmother of, Sullivan, Tyler, Ethan, Cameron, and Alexandra. A devoted mother, she will be deeply missed by her children, Christine Simpson and Matthew Hand, along with their spouses, Chris and Trena.

As a free-spirited and loving sister, Deb's memory will be cherished by Dawn Olczak, David Dempsey, Mark Dempsey, and John Dempsey. Her nieces and nephews: Allison Wildman, Andrea Olczak, Shannon Brown, Lauren Johannesmeyer, Leah Lacey, Tess Dempsey, Robert Dempsey, and David Joseph (Jay) Dempsey Jr, will forever remember her infectious laugh and warm smile.

Deb's professional journey was marked by her dedication as a hospital and nursing home volunteer, where she shared her gift of styling hair. Before dedicating her time to volunteering, she found great joy working at The Hair Port in King Ferry, NY. Her high school years were filled with cheer as a member of the Mt. Carmel Cheer Squad in Auburn, NY. A devout Irish Catholic girl to the core, Deb also found her passion singing in the church choir at Immaculate Conception Church, Ithaca and spending time with her Catholic Sisters group.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Church, King Ferry, NY on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. With the Reverend William Moorby, Pastor as celebrant. Her family will greet friends from 12.30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to mass. Interment will follow in Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial charitable donations be made to STARRY, Inc., a children and family services nonprofit organization that focuses on providing free counseling, family preservation, and youth and family support. Donations can be made in two ways:
