Obituary of Joseph Barwinczok
Joseph Barwinczok, 95, a lifelong Auburn resident, passed away peacefully with family on Thursday evening, March 28, 2024 at Auburn Community Hospital.
A distinguished U.S Army Veteran, having served both in WWII and the Korean War, "Joe" remained committed to Veterans throughout his life. He was a Lifetime member and Past Commander of V.F.W. Post 1975, a Lifetime Member of S.K. Post 1324 and a Lifetime member of the Auburn Knights of Columbus Council 207.
"Joe" was born on May 28, 1928 the son of Steven and Anna (Dushatinski) Barwinczok. He was one of their 12 children, and was a lifelong member of SS Peter & Paul Ukranian Catholic Church, Auburn.
He first enlisted in the U.S. Army in January 1946 and was honorably discharged July 1947. His second tour of duty began in July 1949 and was honorably discharged in December, 1952
"Joe" had retired from G.E., Auburn and later from Powerex, Auburn. He maintained a list of retirees and kept them informed of their benefits after the plant closed. He was always the "Go To" guy whenever a helping hand was needed. A ride to the V.A. Hospital, Syracuse, a ride to a local Doctors appointment, delivering food baskets or whatever he could do, to help a Veteran especially, and anyone else. Always a volunteer, he was most proud of his work on the Genesee Street Veterans Park.
Surviving are a son, Joseph Barwinczok and wife, Sharon, Jordan NY; his daughter, Bonnie Barwinczok, Auburn; nieces, nephews and great- nieces, nephews. A special friend, Barbara Griffin, Auburn.
He was predeceased by his wife, Carmen (Seager) Barwinczok in 1988, their son, Jay, his sisters: Mary Kreydatus, Anna Kimball, Tillie Antonik, Helen Kolczynski, Julia Jaskow, Nellie Wicks, brothers: Frank, Michael, Steven, William and John.
On Thursday, April 4, 2024 calling hours will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Farrell's Funeral Service, Inc., 84 South St., Auburn, NY. His Funeral Mass will be held Friday, April 5, 2024 at 10:00 am in SS Peter and Paul Church, 136 Washington St., Auburn, with Father Vasile Colopelnic, Pastor officiating. Interment with full Military Honors will be held at Joseph's Cemetery.
