Obituary of Bernard Iwanicki
Bernard “Barney” Iwanicki, 91, of 7085 Owasco Road in Auburn, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on July 8th, 2016. Barney is the son of the late Peter and Antonina Iwanicki. He is predeceased by his brother, Joe Iwanicki, and sister, Genevieve Dabinette and survived by his sisters Nellie DeBagio and Stella Briggs. He is also survived by his wife of 63 years, Eugenia (Kozlowski) Iwanicki, his seven children, Ellen (Keith) Chandler, Joanne (Joe) Rice, Audrey Iwanicki, Sue (John) Calvino, Jim Iwanicki, Bob (Roxanne) Iwanicki, David (Kristin) Iwanicki, fifteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. Barney loved his family and his hometown of Auburn. He loved sweets, telling stories, visiting with people and mowing his lawn on his new tractor. He enlisted in the Army/Air Force in December of his senior year in high school expecting to be called for WWII after his graduation. Instead, he was called in February, postponing his graduation until after the war. He worked in his father’s store, Peter’s Furniture, and tested train engines at ALCO in Auburn.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Farrell’s Funeral Service, Inc., 84 South Street, Auburn, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at 10 a.m. in St. Hyacinths Church, 61 Pulaski Street, Auburn, New York.
