Obituary of Karen Vail Burcroff
AUBURN — Karen Vail Burcroff, beloved wife of Richard (Dick) Burcroff, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. Karen was surrounded by family and love until her last breath.
The daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Blumrick) Vail, Karen graduated from Mount Carmel High School and went on to become a licensed practical nurse. Karen worked at Mercy Hospital and Seneca Falls Hospital and later provided private duty care. Later in life, Karen was a nanny for several very special children.
Karen enjoyed growing beautiful roses and gardening with Dick and always enjoyed a good political debate. What Karen enjoyed most of all; however, was spending time with her four grandchildren.
Karen is survived by her husband, Richard (Dick) Burcroff; children, Chris (Mike) Moulton, David (Karen) Burcroff, and Joanne (Shawn Nolan) Burcroff; grandchildren, Drew and Dylan Nolan, and Casey and Kierstin Burcroff, and siblings, Edward (Judy) Vail, Anne (Bill) Ganey, and Sue (Marco) D’Eredita. Karen is also survived by special cousins, Jimmy and Ann Dunnigan; a special goddaughter, P.J. Owens; as well as many in-laws, nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and cousins.
Karen was predeceased by her parents, and very special aunts, Dorothy Dunnigan, Mitzi Welch, and Margaret Vail.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Farrell’s Funeral Service, Inc., 84 South St., Auburn. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Fleming.
