Obituary of David T. Brennan

Mr. David T. Brennan, 81, formerly of 34 Boston Ave., Auburn, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Commons on St. Anthony Street. David had retired from the Columbian Rope Company of Auburn, and was a lifelong member of Holy Family Church, Auburn. He was a graduate of Lincoln Elementary School and Central High School. He maintained a lifelong interest in thoroughbred race horses and along with his family owned “Tom Mix,” a racehorse that competed in Lexington, Ky. Along with a great passion for horses, he was equally fond of dogs. He overcame his disabilities with a strong will and determination, always trying hard. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Helen Mobbs Brennan; a sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice “Betty” and Jules Verdi; a nephew, Michael Verdi. Surviving are nieces, Judy (Roy) Heath, of Auburn, and Jacqueline Butera, of Auburn; great-nieces and nephews, Amanda (Brain) Donovan, of Auburn, Wendy (Matt) Reynolds, of Auburn, Amy Heath, of Sarasota, Fla., Anthony Butera, of Owasco, Andrea Heath, of Auburn, and Anna Butera, of Owasco; great-great-nephew, David Van Tassell, of Auburn, and several cousins. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 14, 2016 in Holy Family Church, Auburn, with Rev. John Gathenya, Pastor, as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the Mass in Holy Family Church. Memorials may be made to either Holy Family Church or the Finger Lakes SPCA of CNY.
