Obituary of Leonard J. Casper
AUBURN | Leonard J. Casper passed away on Aug. 2, 2018, at the Auburn Nursing Home after a long illness.
Leonard was born on July 8, 1936 to Leonard W. and Mary Casper and was raised in Auburn. Leonard graduated from Holy Family High School in 1954 and worked for the New York State Department of Corrections for 28 years. He was a Boy Scout leader for Troop 29, based at Holy Family Church and later the Knights of Columbus, for more than two decades; as well as a volunteer firefighter for the Sennett Volunteer Fire Department for more than 10 years. Leonard was also well-known for selling “Casper Family Christmas Trees” in the Auburn area for more than a decade. He was an avid camper and loved to visit the Adirondacks, especially the Fish Creek Ponds campgrounds in Franklin County.
Leonard was predeceased by his parents, Leonard W. and Mary Casper; his brother, Paul, and sister, Patricia Burke, all of Auburn.
Leonard is survived by his brother, Thomas Casper, of Albuquerque, N.M. He was the proud father of six sons, Lenny (Kelley), of Clifton Park, N.Y., Tim (Wendi), of Weedsport, Robin (Amy), Jeff (Kathy), Stephen, and Michael (Chanel), all of Skaneateles. Leonard is also survived by his 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Leonard’s life will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the Farrell Funeral Home, 84 South St., Auburn. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Leonard may be made to the American Cancer Society.
