I first met Charlie in 1975 when I came to Auburn while broadcasting Oneonta Yankees games. What a nice person he was and a great ambassador for the team. We had the common bond of baseball.
I moved back to Rochester that fall and began a 3 year stint as a part of the Red Wings broadcast team, I helped him obtain a few autographs he was looking for. I drove to Auburn to give them to him. He and his wife welcomed me in and we had a wonderful conversation. He showed me his collection and gave me a few autographs in return.
After moving to North Carolina, I returned to Auburn with my wife, brother, and friends to see the then new ballpark and we had a chance to catch up. We began exchanging emails and he would send all sorts of lists he had compiled, trivia, and baseball memories. I always looked forward to receiving them.
When they stopped coming, I feared he might not be doing well. I recently came across his contact information and learned of his passing. He had a positive impact to those he came in contact with as attested to by others who have commented on his life.
I am happy to have met him.

Hi Charlie,
How are you doing? As you know, we are in a pandemic. We moved back to the United States from the Cayman Islands. We are living in Jacksonville, FL. The MiLB team in Jacksonville changed their name from the Suns to the Jumbo Shrimp. I know you already know but wanted to let you know. The MLB season is postponed, along with all of the other sports. I pray you are well in heaven.
I respect you, I love you, and I cherish our friendship. See you one day.
Love,
Tim

What an outstanding person! We worked together at WAUB Radio when he did his Saturday morning show. He invited me to his house to talk baseball and gave me a drawing of the Yankee's logo commemorating the great comeback in 1978 that I still have framed on my office wall. Whenever I came back to Auburn and went to a game I would try to see him. He was as much a part of that ball park as home plate. To paraphrase Paul Harvey's tribute to fathers- fathers enjoy an earthly immortality in the part of him he leaves behind...and somewhere in Heaven, Charlie is being a great teacher, talking baseball and smoothing the way for everyone else.

I was very sad to learn of Charlie‘s passing. He was very sweet man. When I first started teaching with him in 1970, he was always there to answer any questions I had. As the years went on we became very good friends. He always had a smile on his face and his positive attitude was contagious. He was a great educator who influenced many lives and who will be missed. My condolences to the family.

My condolences to Mr Wride’’s family. He was always such a patient and kind teacher. He helped to build my confidence in my math skills after taking his Business Math course. And he always gave me a pass for being late to his class. Lol. How wonderful to see how many lives he had touched while here with us. I hope that brings you comfort.

To the Family of Mr. Wride,
If you loved Baseball you loved Charlie Wride. I was one of Charlie's students from Mynderse Academy back in the 70's. I considered your husband and father one of my favorite teachers of all time. I was lucky enough a few years back to catch him at the Auburn Hibernian club. One of my classmates from Mynderse had sent me his baseball e-mails a couple of years ago and I was able to get a hold of him when I was living in the DC area. He told me that his girls were living in Virginia and we where going to try and get together one time. I will leave you with this as he had wrote in my yearbook: " May the wind be always at your back, may the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your field and until we meet again, my God hold you in the palm of his hand".
RIP Mr. Wride.
