Obituary of Ruth Ann (Hayes) Hai
Ruth Ann Hai (Hayes) 77, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 22, 2018, at home in Auburn, New York. She was predeceased by her loving husband, John (Jack) Hai, married 57 years. Ruth Ann is survived by her four children; Christopher (Kristin), Kathleen (Bill), John (Nicki) and Suzanne, a brother John (Mary) Hayes and a sister-in-law Elaine Peeters, her seven grandchildren, Michael Hai, Stephen Bennett, Abigail Hai, Alexander Hai, Jessica Hai, Rebecca Hai and Colton Hai and many nieces, nephews and close family friends.
Our loving Mother was born in 1940 in Auburn, New York, the daughter of the late John J. and Ruth V. Hayes of Foote Street. She graduated from Mount Carmel High School in Auburn, New York (Class of 1958) and worked as a telephone operator for the New York Telephone Co. for many years before raising her four children. She was a lifelong member at St Alphonsus Parish, active in Boy Scouts with her husband and sons, and an avid member of The Thumbstall Quilt Guild. Ruth Ann and Jack enjoyed many long bus trips with Onondaga Coach traveling across the country visiting many historic landmarks of the United States. Ruth Ann, a loving Mother, and Grandmother, enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren immensely. Ruth Ann was also a devoted New York Yankee Fan (never missing a Yankee game), antique glass collector, and talented quilter. She also enjoyed reading, an advocate for Seymour Library and the Merry Go Round Theatre Playhouse.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 28, 10:30 AM at St. Alphonsus Church, 85 East Genesee Street, Auburn NY, followed by Entombment at St Joseph’s Mausoleum in Fleming NY. The family invites friends for calling hours at St Alphonsus Church on Wednesday, June 27 from 4-7 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the following: St. Alphonsus Parish, Boy Scout Troop 21 at Sacred Heart Church, or Seymour Library, 176 Genesee Street, Auburn NY.
