Jane Carr

Obituary of Jane M. Carr

Jane Williamson Carr, 94, of Auburn died peacefully at home on Friday, June 8, 2018 surrounded by her children.  Born on July 5, 1923, Jane was the daughter of Earl and Margaret Lawlor Williamson.  After graduating from Auburn Central High School in 1941, Jane married Edward J. Carr on April 26, 1947 in Holy Family Church, Auburn.  During the next years, Jane was at home raising her three children. Jane and Ed were founding members of Sacred Heart Church in Auburn.  Beginning in 1967, Jane was employed by the Auburn School District and worked most of her career at East Middle School as head secretary, a job she truly enjoyed, retiring in 1983.  In her retirement, Jane and her husband “Ding” as she affectionately called him, enjoyed trips to Florida until Ding’s death in 1986.  At that point, Jane learned to play golf and joined a golf league.  Jane enjoyed travelling with her sister Dorothy and especially with her daughter Linda.  Jane and Linda enjoyed annual trips to Maine for over ten years.  Jane also travelled to Costa Rica, the Bahamas, Alaska, Ireland, France and Italy. During the 1970’s, Jane began taking college courses at Auburn Community College and was proud to earn an Associate’s Degree in 1983.

Jane is survived by her three children, Michael (Lynne) of Auburn, William (Rob) of Syracuse, and Linda of Auburn; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren with another on the way, her brother Edwin Williamson of Orchard Park, several nieces and nephews.  Jane was pre-deceased by her parents, husband, sister Dorothy Murphy in 1998, brother Earl in 2001, and sister Jean Doyle in 2016.

The time Jane enjoyed most was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought so much joy to her life.

Jane’s family would like to thank Dr. Cassandra Archer for her care and concern through the years, Kindred at Home Staff, Hospice of the Finger Lakes Staff, and her loving caregivers who enabled her to remain in her home and spend her final days in comfort, especially Mary, Renee, Stephanie, Alex, Cindy and Mary Jo.

There will be no calling hours, as Jane wished.  A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Auburn with Rev. Michael Brown officiating.  Burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery will be private.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Finger Lakes or the Owasco Fire Department. Arrangements are with Farrell’s Funeral Service, Inc., 84 South Street, Auburn, NY.
