Obituary of John (Jack) Hai

John (Jack) Hai, 78, passed away suddenly on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2017, at the family home in Auburn.

He is survived by Ruth Ann Hai (Hayes), his loving wife of 56 years, one sister, Elaine A. Peters (Hai), his four children, Christopher and his wife Kristin, Kathleen and her husband Bill, John and his wife Nicki, and Suzanne; his seven grandchildren, Michael Hai, Stephen Bennett, Abigail Hai, Alexander Hai, Jessica Hai, Rebecca Hai and Colton Hai and many nieces and nephews, including Toy, Snoopy, Bandit, and Ginger, the family dogs.

A Catholic Mass of Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday Dec. 7 at St. Alphonsus Church, 85 E. Genesee St., Auburn, followed by entombment at St Joseph’s Mausoleum in Fleming, NY. The family invites friends for calling hours at St. Alphonsus Church from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6.

Our loving father was born in 1939 in Auburn, the son of the late Frank W. and Eleanor Currier Hai, graduated from St. Alphonsus School, class of 1954, and Central High School, class of 1958 and attended Cayuga Community College. He was a lifelong member and usher at St. Alphonsus Parish and a former scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America, where he received the Silver Beaver Award for exemplary leadership and program support. Jack was involved in scouting for over 40 years, resulting in both his sons achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.

Jack was a loving father, devoting his life to helping and serving others. Jack was well-known for his 60 years of service at Sears Roebuck as sales manager of appliances. His family was his life, taking each day caring for them, enjoying his grandchildren immensely in their sports, activities, with love and devotion.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the following, which Jack was truly a patron of St. Alphonsus Parish, Boy Scout Troop 21 at Sacred Heart Church or Cub Scout Pack 6 Owasco School, or Elks Club, State St., Auburn NY.
