Obituary of Shirley V. Carter

Mrs. Shirley V. Carter, 71, of the Boyle Center, passed away at Auburn Community Hospital on Friday, Dec. 30, 2016. Shirley was the daughter of Bernard and Hazel Bogart Dickinson, and was a graduate of Central High School. Her husband, Ray Carter, and their son, Robert Carter predeceased her. Shirley had retired from Welch Allyn with 30 years of employment. In earlier years she and Ray were members of the Cayuga Cut Ups, and really enjoyed square dancing. They also enjoyed camping, and Shirley had a special bond with her cats. Surviving is her brother, Charles and his wife, Connie Dickinson, of Auburn; nieces and nephews, Daniel and David Dickinson, of Auburn, Connie Lynn Stauring and Richard, of Hannibal, N.Y., and Jennifer Iaia, of Auburn; great-nieces and nephews, Erin and Aric Iaia, and Jessica and Ericka Stauring; great-great-nieces and nephews, Brayden and Lilah Martinez; several cousins including, Virginia Hodge, Barbara Butts, and Donald and Brenda Hendricks. She was predeceased by her husband, Ray; parents; son, Robert and his wife, Susan, and nephew, Charles Dickinson Jr. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family, with Rev. Dr. Leroy Kettinger, officiating at Farrell’s Funeral Service, Inc., 84 South St., Auburn. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
