Richard E. Dann
Richard E. Dann of Auburn passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Auburn Community Hospital on Saturday December 13, 2025.
The son of Emory and Margaret Martin Dann was a graduate of Union Springs High School and Auburn (Cayuga) Community College. Richard retired as a
Sergeant after 34 years of employment with New York State Department of Corrections. He started his career at Sing Sing and finished at Moravia but
spent the majority as the “shop” Sergeant at Auburn Correctional Facility.
Always well dressed and looking sharp, he earned the nickname “Dapper Dann” which he was commonly referred to by all of his friends. Richard was an
avid golfer and a longtime member of Highland Park Golf Club. He also served on the Board of Directors at Highland for several years. Besides his holes in
one, which he had a few, one of his favorite memories on the course was when he made back to back eagles on holes 3 and 4 at Highland during a law
enforcement tournament which helped his team win the tournament.
Richard was also a former High School and College Basketball Referee. He was a
member of the Ukrainian National Club and a lifelong fan of the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Dodgers.
Surviving are his wife Mary Ellen Martin Dann whom he married in 1963 and their children Christopher Dann, Gregory (Kirsten) Dann, Kimberly (Jeff) Crary
and Corey (Dawn) Dann. Grandchildren Jessica Dann, Meghan (Benedict) Tarby, Brian Crary, Kevin Crary, Matthew Dann, Corey Dann Jr. and Great Granddaughter Luciana Tarby. Also, several nieces and nephews.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, brother Edward Dann and sister Linda Cooper.
Private Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
