Jeanne Doyle passed away surrounded by people who loved her on Friday, October 10th, a blue-skied, red-leafed, crispy fall day, the kind that beckoned Jeanne back to Auburn after several decades in Florida. Jeanne was the tenth child of Jean and Bob Doyle. She was the little sister to Mark, Lisa, Chunky, Lori, Beth, Gretchen, Susi, Willy, and Brendan, the big sister to Michael, Tara, and Amy, but the favorite of all. Jeanne was, and will forever be, the mother to her sons Garrett and Jesse, and to her daughter Lauren, whose loving care in the last two months of Jeanne’s life allowed her soul to transition peacefully.
.
Jeanne is remembered by everyone for her gentleness and kindness. Time passed differently when you were with Jeanne, and you felt her feather-light essence long after you parted ways. Jeanne’s energy was always unrushed, even if she was being yanked out of the fire drill line at Blessed Trinity during uniform inspection or accidentally taking two spring breaks during her junior year of high school, Auburn High’s and Bishop Ludden’s. Nothing stressed her out, not her part-time job at Super Duper or cramming into a van with her brother Brendan and a dozen friends to drive to the Stones concert in Buffalo. After graduating from Bishop Ludden High School, she traveled to Alaska where she played volleyball under the midnight sun and took guitar lessons before moving to Florida where she lived for 40 years, raising her three children and teaching preschool. She was an easy soul, even after her diagnosis of cancer 28 years ago. Amid all the uncertainty about her health, she could drift on a tube in Owasco Lake with her sisters during family reunion week, have a leisurely coffee on the curb of Holley Street, or tip toe into the madness of her nieces’ and nephews’ birthday parties with shaving cream and water balloons. Jeanne was a low-maintenance regular girl, who bought her clothes at thrift stores, used the classic chocolate cake recipe on the back of the Hershey’s can every time, and whose idea of the perfect Saturday night was being jammied up at home. She was a deep soul, whose eyes looked like they were always holding a secret. After her cancer returned in 2017, she was active in the Metastatic Breast Cancer community, supporting other survivors and contributing quilt squares to the Cancer Research quilt in Washington, D.C. But she could keep it light, gossip about the Amber and Johnny trial, gush about meeting Derek Trucks with her sister Tara, or spruce herself up to watch her “husband” David Muir deliver the evening news. Forever moved by the tide of her own soul, Jeanne relocated back to her hometown of Auburn in 2023, where she loved to attend any of her brother Mark’s concerts, eat gyros from her brother Michael’s food trucks, go for walks with her sister, Susi, and spend time with her companion, Teddy Prystal. Despite the spectre of cancer, Jeanne raised her three children to have hope and faith, to love music and nature, and to know that family is the most valuable asset a person can hope to have.
She will be deeply missed and remembered forever.
