Edna V. Cruz, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Edna was born in Baguio City, Philippines the daughter of Juanito and Zenona DeCastro Vergara. She was a graduate of Baguio General Hospital School of Nursing, with a Registered Nurse Degree. Her health care career in nursing spanned over thirty years.
Edna started in the Philippines, then on to Chicago; Napanee, Canada: Crouse Hospital, Syracuse: A. Lee Memorial Hospital, Fulton: Mercy Hospital Auburn then concluding at Auburn Memorial Hospital (Labor and Delivery Dept) with twenty four years of service until her retirement. Her care and kindness was well remembered by patients, families and staff on the maternity floor,
During her retirement she continued caring for the community as a Private Duty Nurse. She made many friendships and was always well noted for the excellent care she provided. Edna volunteered as an R.N. on the Veterans Operation Enduring Gratitude bus trips to Washington. D.C. sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. She also volunteered for St. Joseph's School for the fund raisers at Hoopes Park for the Healing Field - Field of Hopes and Dreams. Edna's presence was a highlight for twelve years as a volunteer at the "Haunted House on Anna Street."
Along with her husband Rolando they celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on May 4th, 2025. They enjoyed traveling during retirement and spending time with the family. Edna loved to cook. bake, gardening and enjoyed fishing. She was a devout catholic, with strong faith .
Surviving are her husband, Rolando L. Cruz; their two children, Rolando Cruz, Jr., and Susan (Michael ) Chipman; grandsons, Joshua and Samuel Chipman; three siblings; many nieces, nephews.
She was pre deceased by her parents and five siblings.
A Private Service was held at the convenience of the family at Farrell's Funeral Service, Inc Auburn, N.Y. with Reverend Louis A. Vasile as the celebrant. Interment was in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
