Obituary of Nicholas J. Kuncio, Jr.

Mr. Nicholas J. Kuncio, Jr., 73, of 6445 East Lake Road, Auburn, and Naples, Fla., passed away Monday, March 28, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse surrounded by his family. A lifelong Auburn/Owasco resident, he was a graduate of St. Francis Parochial School, a graduate of West High School, a graduate of then Auburn Community College, Central Michigan University, and earned a Masters Degree from Syracuse University. Nick never forgot where he came from, nor his many friendships he made, and maintained throughout his lifetime. Once a friend, always a friend. He met everyone with a warm smile, hug or handshake, a true gentleman. He continued to make new friends wherever he went, always treasuring those from childhood. Currently he was a Real Estate Agent in Naples, Fla., having previously been a New York State Parole Officer, an Adjunct Professor at Cayuga Community College, a High School Business Teacher, and previously a very successful management consultant. A member of the Owasco Golf & Tennis Club, and Winstar on Naples Bay Country Club, Nick loved his golf and always enjoyed his time laughing with the guys afterwards. From an early age he enjoyed music and became an accomplished musician. He was a talented saxophone player. At the age of 16 he started playing in Rock & Roll bands, and recently came out of retirement for a fundraiser at Tinkers. He was a First Degree Knights of Columbus member and member of Sacred Heart Church in Auburn. Surviving are his wife, Susan Melnick Kuncio, whom he married on July 12, 1969 in St. Mary’s Church, Auburn; his sister, Nancy (Len) Evans, Pittsburgh, Pa.; his brother, David (Donna) Kuncio, Wycoff, N.J.; nieces and nephews, David Evans, Beth Evans, David Kuncio, Patrick Kuncio, Meganne (Logan) Outerbridge; great-nephew, Brody Outerbridge; sisters-in-law, Patty Cadwallader, Anne Melnick. He was pre deceased by his parents, Nicholas Sr. and Anna Kuncio; and in-laws, Mary and John Melnick. A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, in Sacred Heart Church, 90 Melrose Road, Auburn. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. The omission of flowers is suggested, with memorials being recommended to either the Brian Bisgrove Home of Courage, 453 Grant Ave., Auburn, NY, the Owasco Fire Department or Sacred Heart Church.
